English language book

This is a detailed, comprehensive and lavishly illustrated account of the Cathedral of Monreale – one of the most outstanding monuments of medieval Europe and its incomparable Norman mosaics. The book explores all the key elements and features: the building's origins and construction; its Byzantine and origins; its magnificent mosaics; and its gardens.

This book provides a new vision of the Cathedral of Monreale as a work of art, rather than as an administrative and dynastic tool. It presents the chronological study of the activity of mosaic-designer, architects and craftsmen. It also shows how the mosaics were built as well as some reflections on the history of their restoration.

A rich text with never-seen-before photographs offers a unique insight into this incredible masterpiece.

I expected an interesting history of this beautiful church

Instead, I found a fascinating look at the history of the Normans in Sicily and their reign over the island and its people. The text is supported by many beautiful photographs, most in color. There are so many wonderful details in these photographs, each with a caption detailing what you are seeing.

This book is a must-have for anyone who visits Monreale

It gives you the story behind the mosaics and the cloister, the history of its construction, and includes beautiful photos of these magnificent works of art. I'm planning on purchasing more as gifts for family and friends who are planning on visiting this beautiful site.

The book is magnificent!

The pictures are incredible. The author has a wonderful way of writing that makes the reader feel as if they are actually being taken on a guided tour. I have visited Monreale many times but this is the first time I have felt I really know the history behind the art. A great read for anyone who loves Italian art, architecture and history.
