Sicilian Provolone is a cheese made from cow’s milk, with stringy texture and straw-colored. It acquires its round shape while hand working the curd. It is tied-off at the neck, raffia string or twine, and can have different sizes.

How to Serve:
Provolone is a table cheese that can be paired with rustic appetizers. It can also be used as filling for stuffed tomatoes and eggplant rolls.

Provola from Alcantara Formaggi (Azienda Casearia Camuglia) in Castiglione di Sicilia, in the Alcantara valley at the foot of Mount Etna. A pasta filata cheese of cow's milk from eastern Sicily, coagulated with lamb rennet: the curd ripens at least 24 hours, then is stretched and shaped entirely by hand with red chili pepper worked into the paste, and tied at the neck with raffia.

Ingredients: Cow's milk, lamb rennet, salt, chili pepper (2–3%).

The Sicilian provolone was bought for Christmas gifts for others, so I didn’t taste it. My husband’s parents frequently had an aged provolone hanging and awaiting use, and it was always so delicious, that I wanted to share that experience. Next time I’ll have to order one for my husband and myself!

An out-of-the-ordinary treat

These crunchy and light Italian cookies are unusual in texture, which makes them out-of-the-ordinary. They are also heavily flavored, one person in my family thought it was cherry, the name refers to almond flavor, but they are in fact made from apricot pits.

I loved the tin container that they come in and the fact that each is individually wrapped in plastic and then a decorative paper wrapping. It makes each little cookie something to focus on.

Sicilian Orange IGP

I did not know what to expect, but the oranges were fresh (they have the leaves on), packed well and arrived quickly after the date they said they would ship. The biggest surprise was how delicious they were - each orange was sweet with a tinge of sour.
